Morehouse School of Medicine and Atrium Health have received approval for a teaching hospital at 675 Metropolitan Parkway SW in Atlanta. Atrium Health is committing more than $700 million, and the campus will open at roughly 50 beds with capacity to expand beyond 700 over time.
Atrium Health has committed more than $700 million in capital and clinical investment toward a teaching hospital and connected care network at 675 Metropolitan Parkway SW in Atlanta, developed in partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine. Approval to advance the plan was announced on August 21, 2026.
Programming calls for an opening capacity near 50 beds and a structural path beyond 700 as demand grows. Clinical services will include emergency care with a Level III trauma center, obstetrics, a neonatal intensive care unit, adult critical care, advanced imaging, cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology and endoscopy.
Campus plans contemplate medical offices, research space and additional development around the acute care building. A separate ambulatory layer pairs primary care practices, combined primary and urgent care locations, specialty services and a healthplex housing imaging, infusion and endoscopy functions, alongside virtual models such as Hospital at Home.
Siting analysis drew on federal service area need methodology and the CDC Social Vulnerability Index. Research by 3D Health counted a shortfall of nearly 246 primary care providers across Fulton County, and a joint assessment by Fulton County and Morehouse School of Medicine, conducted with Ernst & Young, mapped neighborhoods with limited access.
Hospital coverage in South and West Atlanta contracted after Atlanta Medical Center and Atlanta Medical Center South closed in 2022. HR&A Advisors projected roughly 5,400 construction jobs and 4,800 permanent positions at maturity, including about 1,000 health system employees and 150 care providers, with annual economic activity near $1.25 billion, according to Atrium Health.
Atlanta is expected to contribute more than $115 million toward site preparation, roadway and pedestrian improvements and equipment. Remaining commitments hinge on agreements with Fulton County covering support to Morehouse Healthcare for the ambulatory network. Atrium Health operates as part of Advocate Health, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. Morehouse School of Medicine, founded in 1975, is an independent private medical school in Atlanta.
