Construction at UF Health Durbin Park has advanced through a sequence of St. Johns County permits that trace the campus from site work to interior fit-out, with the five-story hospital now targeted for a fall 2026 opening.
Site activity began in December 2023, and University of Florida and UF Health leaders broke ground the following February. Permitting since then has moved building by building. A central energy plant was authorized at $19.4 million at the end of 2024, followed by a helipad permit in early 2025. A shell permit valued at $10.8 million cleared the medical office building in April 2025, and interior build-out permits followed in February and April 2026.
Bed count has been revised downward since the original filing. County records tied to the December 2023 permit described a 150-bed facility. Current descriptions put the hospital at 99 inpatient beds within roughly 220,000 SF across five stories, with acute and intensive care units, six operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, an emergency department, and cardiac and imaging services.
Programming at the 72,000 SF medical office building runs toward specialty care, including cardiology, surgery, gynecology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, pain management, and urology, alongside rehabilitation and a full diagnostic laboratory. That building is scheduled to receive patients ahead of the hospital.
Board documents place construction authorization at roughly $285 million inside a broader $1 billion regional commitment tied to an estimated 2,000 initial jobs. Durbin Park itself is a GATE Lands development between Interstate 95 and State Road 9B. Stellar, a Jacksonville contractor, is overseeing work on the 42.5-acre campus at 120 Flagler Health Way near Race Track Road, a site that entered the system through UF Health’s combination with Flagler Health+, according to county permit records reported by the Jax Daily Record.
