HCA Healthcare has closed on Texas MedClinic and its 40 urgent care locations across San Antonio, Austin and Houston. All sites now operate under the CareNow brand, which has moved past 430 clinics nationally and more than 190 within Texas. Financial terms were not disclosed.
HCA Healthcare has folded a 40 site urgent care platform into its Texas operations, extending an outpatient footprint that now spans three of the state’s largest metropolitan markets. That transaction closed at the beginning of August 2026.
Every acquired location now carries HCA’s CareNow brand, pushing that division past 430 clinics nationally and beyond 190 inside Texas. Conversions of this kind involve signage replacement, wayfinding updates, records and information technology integration, and permitting coordination with local jurisdictions, work that usually proceeds on a phased schedule across a portfolio rather than as a single cutover.
Texas MedClinic opened in San Antonio in 1982 and built out a network serving several state metros over four decades. National operator Community Care Partners bought the business in 2022, so this marks a second ownership change within four years.
Expansion of lower acuity access points has been steady for HCA. February brought 13 urgent care sites in Texas, and June added 17 across North Carolina and South Carolina. Company leadership told investors it approved more than $7 billion in additional capital expenditures over three years, spending that layers onto roughly 190 hospitals and about 2,600 other care sites in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Urgent care locations of this type generally occupy leased retail or medical office space rather than purpose built hospital campuses, a delivery model that shortens schedules and lowers capital intensity per site relative to inpatient construction.
Eighteen San Antonio area clinics moved to Methodist Healthcare, co-owned by HCA and Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas. Fourteen Austin locations went to St. David’s HealthCare, a partnership between HCA, St. David’s Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation. Eight remaining sites joined HCA Houston Healthcare, which HCA owns outright. Financial terms were not disclosed in the announcements issued by the acquiring systems.
