Boston Children’s plans a $640M pediatric behavioral health hospital on the Franciscan Children’s campus, adding 116 beds, surgical and rehab services, and integrated medical-psychiatric care. The project is backed by a $100M gift, per Becker’s Hospital Review.
Boston Children’s Hospital is advancing plans for a new pediatric behavioral health facility on the Franciscan Children’s campus in Boston, representing a $640 million investment supported in part by a $100 million philanthropic contribution. The project is designed to expand inpatient capacity while integrating psychiatric care with medical services for children with complex needs.
Plans call for 116 inpatient beds, a day hospital with 24 partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient slots, and a 14-bed community-based acute treatment program. Clinical space will also include a dental clinic, four operating rooms with 10 perioperative bays, a pharmacy, and outpatient rehabilitation areas featuring therapy and aquatic treatment.
Programming is structured to serve three primary groups: children with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions, patients with autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders, and early intervention and prevention populations. Care delivery will be coordinated across service levels to allow transitions between outpatient, partial, and inpatient settings.
Behavioral health clinicians are being embedded across medical specialties, supported by consultation services for rehabilitation units and other inpatient programs. Facility design emphasizes natural light, activity space, and varied therapeutic environments intended to support different clinical needs.
Project details were reported by Becker’s Hospital Review.
