Crews have topped out BayCare Hospital Manatee, placing the final steel beam on BayCare’s first hospital in Manatee County. The 436,000 SF acute care facility opens in 2028 with 154 private rooms, expandable to 207 beds, built by Robins & Morton.
Construction of a new acute care hospital in Florida’s Manatee County reached a structural milestone on July 10, when crews set the final steel beam during a topping out ceremony attended by more than 300 people. Known as BayCare Hospital Manatee, the facility will become the health system’s 17th hospital and its first in the county.
Robins & Morton is serving as general contractor on the project, which spans more than 436,000 SF and is scheduled to open in 2028. Plans call for 154 private patient rooms at opening, with infrastructure sized to support expansion to 207 beds. Once operating, it will be the only not-for-profit hospital in Manatee County and the first north of the Manatee River.
Designed as a full-service acute care hospital, the building will offer emergency care, general and specialty surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, orthopedics, and diagnostic and interventional imaging. Obstetrics and neonatology programs are planned as well, including a neonatal intensive care unit that would roughly double availability of that care level countywide. BayCare runs neonatal intensive care units at six hospitals across West Central Florida.
A companion outpatient building, BayCare HealthHub (Manatee), sits adjacent to the campus and is expected to open in late 2026. Covering more than 46,000 SF, that facility will house primary and specialty care, outpatient laboratory services, and advanced imaging spanning MRI, CT, PET CT, mammography, X-ray, DEXA and ultrasound. It joins seven other HealthHub locations the system operates regionally.
Rising population in Manatee County has increased demand for local medical services, which BayCare cited among reasons for the investment. According to information released by BayCare, interior, infrastructure and clinical work continues on schedule. The project sits in Manatee County, Florida, carries Robins & Morton as general contractor, and pairs a 436,000 SF hospital of 154 private rooms, expandable to 207 beds, with a 46,000 SF outpatient facility.
