St. Agnes Medical Center Receives $13.6M Richter Estate Donation to Build New Emergency Department in Fresno

St. Agnes Medical Center has received a $13.6M donation from the Richter Estate to fund construction of a new emergency department in Fresno. The project will expand emergency care capacity and modernize facilities as part of the hospital’s campus development plans.

St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno will construct a new emergency department following a $13.6 million donation from the King J. Richter Estate, the largest philanthropic gift in the hospital’s 96-year history. The funds will support construction of the new emergency department, investment in medical technology and devices, and initiatives to improve access to care.

St. Agnes is a 436-bed general acute-care hospital, and its existing 63-bed emergency department currently handles approximately 90,000 visits annually. Hospital leadership stated the investment will address growing and increasingly complex community healthcare needs. According to reporting by the Fresno Bee, the hospital is owned by Michigan-based Trinity Health and serves a large Medi-Cal and Covered California patient population in the Central Valley.

In addition to the emergency department project, St. Agnes has recently expanded its academic partnership with California Health Sciences University to provide clinical rotations for third- and fourth-year medical students. The donation continues the Richter family’s long-standing philanthropic involvement in the region, which has included major gifts to healthcare, education, and faith-based institutions across the Central Valley.
