AdventHealth Daytona Beach has completed an expansion that lifts the hospital from 362 to 466 beds. All 104 new beds serve intensive or progressive care, including a dedicated neuro ICU. Four added surgical suites bring the total to 22, and the campus now measures nearly 1 million SF.
AdventHealth Daytona Beach has finished a construction program that raises inpatient capacity at the Volusia County hospital from 362 beds to 466.
Every one of the 104 added beds serves intensive or progressive care rather than general medical surgical use. Within that count is a dedicated neuro ICU for patients with serious neurological conditions, along with an enlarged cardiovascular intensive care unit. Neuroscience services on the campus operate through the Jill Simpkins and Gale Lemerand Neuroscience Center.
Procedural capacity grew alongside the beds. Four new surgical suites bring the hospital to 22 operating rooms, and additional CT and MRI equipment expands diagnostic imaging throughput. Support departments were sized to match, with larger pharmacy, laboratory and sterile processing areas built to carry the added surgical and inpatient volume. Parking was addressed as part of the same program, which delivered 287 new spaces for patients, families and staff.
New patient rooms were fitted with the health system’s smart room technology. Digital whiteboards in each room display information including the assigned clinical team, medications and daily care goals, and secure video connections link patients with clinicians and other services. Chief Nursing Officer Jamie Kabanuk described the rooms as designed around both patients and care teams, giving clinicians better visibility into each case while keeping families informed.
Eric Lunde, president and chief executive officer of AdventHealth Daytona Beach, tied the investment to demand for highly specialized care within the community. Rob Deininger, president and chief executive officer of AdventHealth’s East Florida Division, characterized the work as a continuation of the long range thinking that shaped the original campus.
That campus opened in July 2009 at 718,000 SF, replacing a 42 year old facility in Ormond Beach that was less than half its size. Growth capacity was built into the original master plan.
HuntonBrady Architects served as architect on the expansion. Robins and Morton, which constructed the initial campus between 2006 and 2009, returned as builder, with Angel Colon serving as operations manager for the contractor.
