Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital has opened a 12,000 SF oncology and clinical expansion in Kingwood, West Virginia. The $6.9 million project added eight private infusion bays, three exam rooms and shell space for future growth. Omni Associates designed it and March-Westin built it.
Rural hospital construction in West Virginia continues to rely on layered funding sources, and a newly finished addition in Kingwood follows that pattern. Vandalia Health Mon Preston Memorial Hospital opened a roughly 12,000 SF oncology and clinical expansion in late July, with county commissioners, state legislators and representatives from congressional offices attending the ribbon cutting.
Total project cost reached approximately $6.9 million. A $1.5 million award through the West Virginia Rural Hospital Grant Program funded one share, congressionally directed spending secured by the state’s federal delegation covered another, and system capital from Vandalia Health filled the remainder. Preston Memorial operates as a 25 bed critical access hospital, a designation that limits operating margin available for construction and pushes small facilities toward grant and appropriation funding.
Eight private infusion bays anchor the oncology suite. Three exam rooms, added clinical area and space for providers and support staff occupy the balance of finished square footage, while a separate entrance serves the addition and keeps arriving patients clear of general hospital traffic. Builders also delivered part of the floor plate as shell space, which allows later fit-out as demand grows.
Vandalia Health formed in 2022 through the combination of Charleston Area Medical Center and Mon Health System, with Davis Health System joining later. Preston Memorial carried its Mon Health identity into the merged organization.
Project details were released by the hospital on July 29. Construction began in 2025 and reached a beam signing in December. Adam Rohaly of Omni Associates served as project architect and March-Westin worked as general contractor,
