Ascension Saint Thomas has broken ground on a $148.5 million hospital campus in Clarksville, Tennessee. The 96-acre development will open with 44 inpatient beds, expandable to 132, and is projected to create 250 hospital jobs and generate $316 million in annual economic impact.
Ground has officially broken on a new hospital campus in Clarksville, Tennessee, representing a $148.5 million investment by Ascension Saint Thomas in one of the state’s fastest growing communities. Local officials, physicians and health system leaders gathered for the ceremonial start of construction this week.
The 96-acre development will sit near Highway 76 and Interstate 24 in Montgomery County. Plans call for the hospital to open with 44 inpatient beds, with the physical design allowing for future expansion to 132 beds as regional demand grows.
Emergency care, inpatient surgery, cardiology, neurosciences, women’s health, neonatal intensive care, oncology and orthopedics are slated to be among the services available when the hospital opens. Beyond the hospital itself, the wider campus is designed to eventually house physician and subspecialty clinics, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, outpatient surgery capabilities, advanced imaging and specialty ambulatory services.
Several healthcare organizations are expected to participate in the campus buildout, including Tennessee Oncology, Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, Ascension Saint Thomas Heart and Howell Allen Clinic. Lifepoint Health is anticipated to be involved in operating the planned inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Montgomery County government is also contributing to the project through a new ambulance and EMS station located on site.
Economic projections tied to the development are substantial. The project is expected to generate approximately 250 direct hospital jobs, along with an estimated $316 million in annual economic impact and support for more than 1,300 direct and indirect positions across the region, according to figures released by Ascension.
Ascension Saint Thomas first established a presence in the Clarksville area in 2005. The health system currently operates 17 care locations throughout Montgomery County, according to information released alongside the groundbreaking announcement.
