Prisma Health has broken ground on Fountain Inn Medical Park, a $180 million outpatient campus in southern Greenville County, South Carolina. The 50-acre development will include specialty care and an orthopedic surgery center, with patient care beginning in December 2027.
Southern Greenville County’s rapid population growth is driving a new wave of healthcare infrastructure investment, with Prisma Health this week starting construction on a $180 million outpatient campus in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. The project reflects a broader trend among regional health systems expanding specialty access in fast-growing suburban corridors rather than concentrating services in traditional hospital campuses.
Located along the I-385 and McCarter Road corridor on a 50-acre site, the development will bring together more than a dozen specialty practices under a single roof, including cancer treatment, cardiology and vascular care. Neurology, urology, colorectal care, and ear, nose and throat services will mark newly available specialties for residents of Fountain Inn, Simpsonville and nearby communities that previously required longer trips for such care.
A four-story, 130,000 SF medical office building anchors the campus, designed to house over 200 exam rooms alongside diagnostic imaging, laboratory services and rehabilitation programs. A separate 27,000 SF outpatient surgery center will operate four dedicated orthopedic operating rooms plus four additional procedure suites supporting gastroenterology and endoscopic work, part of a broader industry shift toward same-day surgical care outside hospital settings.
Nearby, Prisma Health plans to expand primary care capacity at its Hillcrest Hospital campus in Simpsonville once specialty practices relocate to the new facility, while growing pediatric and endocrinology offerings at its existing Fountain Inn primary care practice across the interchange.
In a June 30 statement, Prisma Health, a nonprofit system operating 19 hospitals and more than 320 practice sites across South Carolina and Tennessee, confirmed the groundbreaking. The Fountain Inn Medical Park is expected to open in December 2027, with physician recruitment already underway.
