Ochsner Lafayette General Opens $19 Million Andrews Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute in Lafayette

Ochsner Lafayette General has opened its new Andrews Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana. A $19 million project adds 17,200 SF for orthopedic care plus a 14,000 SF expansion for physical therapy and sports medicine across the Acadiana region.

Ochsner Lafayette General has brought a new orthopedic and sports medicine destination online in Acadiana, opening the Andrews Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute in Lafayette on November 11, 2025. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and guided tours introduced the facility to the surrounding community.

Carrying a price tag of $19 million, the project pairs a 17,200 SF enhancement of existing orthopedic space with a 14,000 SF addition devoted to physical therapy and sports medicine. Bringing surgery, rehabilitation, and performance training together within one building reflects an integrated model of musculoskeletal care, where evaluation, treatment, and recovery occur in a single coordinated setting.

Eighteen new exam rooms and two triage rooms anchor the clinical footprint. Patients also gain four private physical therapy exam rooms, advanced radiology and treatment spaces, hand therapy areas, and private rooms designed for in-office procedures. Athletes can train on professional-grade turf and training surfaces or use a sports performance workout space outfitted with current equipment.

Staffing matches the scale of the build. Eleven board-certified orthopedic surgeons and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialists practice alongside 69 therapy clinicians. A separate group of 38 athletic trainers supports more than 8,000 student athletes across schools and athletic programs throughout the region.

Ochsner Lafayette General operates the institute under the leadership of chief executive officer Patrick Gandy. The facility joins the system’s existing orthopedic campus in Lafayette, Louisiana, and combines 17,200 SF of enhanced space with a 14,000 SF expansion for a total of 31,200 SF.
