Imaging capacity carries much of the project. Berger operates the only CT scanner in Pickaway County, and a second unit will double scanning throughput for oncology, outpatient and emergency volumes. Phasing an occupied diagnostic suite typically requires temporary shielding, sequenced equipment delivery and close coordination with existing imaging schedules, which shapes how such work gets staged.
Infusion capacity moves from seven treatment spaces to 12 private rooms, including rooms configured for additional patient needs. Converting open bays into enclosed rooms adds mechanical, electrical and nurse call infrastructure per position rather than per bay, so the headcount change understates the shift in built area and systems load.
Pharmacy scope adds a second hood, widening onsite compounding of oncology medications. Hospitals in county markets frequently depend on outside preparation, and a second hood ties turnaround for treatment drugs to the building rather than to a courier route.
Staffing follows the physical program, with new nursing, pharmacy and imaging positions expected as volumes rise, according to the health system’s announcement. This project follows a donor supported investment of nearly $1.1 million in 2025 that installed 3D mammography at the hospital, serving more than 4,500 screening patients each year. OhioHealth is separately developing a comprehensive outpatient cancer center in Columbus for complex cases, placing Berger within a two tier delivery model.
