Novant Health files state permits for a Berkeley County hospital in Nexton

Novant Health has filed state environmental permits for a new hospital in Nexton near the Nexton Parkway interchange at Interstate 26 in Berkeley County. Plans include a helipad and full site utility work. Project leaders say construction is not imminent but confirm the project is advancing.

Novant Health has moved a planned Berkeley County hospital into the permitting phase, submitting documents to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services for a site off Sigma Drive and Nexton Parkway near Interstate 26. Permit scope covers grading and paving, hospital construction, a helipad, and underground water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater utilities.

Filing activity extends a rapid Lowcountry buildout by the North Carolina based system, which entered the Charleston market through hospital acquisitions that included East Cooper Medical Center and opened four clinics at Nexton’s Dayfield Park earlier this year. Permit records describe an 86 bed hospital planned within the master planned Nexton community in the Summerville area.
