Northside Hospital Atlanta breaks ground on a major Emergency Department expansion, adding 67,537 SF of new space, 18 treatment rooms, and a 54-space parking structure. Construction runs through early 2028.
Northside Hospital Atlanta has launched construction on a significant expansion of its Emergency Department, a project that will substantially increase the facility’s patient capacity and modernize how emergency care is delivered at the Sandy Springs campus.
Construction began April 6 and is scheduled to continue through early 2028. The scope encompasses roughly 7,815 SF of renovations to existing ground-floor space alongside a new two-story addition totaling 67,537 SF spread across the ground and first floors. A separate 17,000 SF parking structure with 54 dedicated spaces will serve Emergency Department patients and visitors during and after the build-out.
Among the functional additions are 18 new treatment rooms, an upgraded triage area, a new patient entry, an expanded waiting room, and capacity for two additional emergency care teams. A two-story entry lobby featuring both stair and elevator access will connect the ground and first floors internally, with an enclosed corridor linking the expanded Emergency Department directly to the hospital’s main lobby.
Renovations to the existing department are designed to run concurrently with active operations, allowing Northside to maintain emergency services throughout the construction period. During initial site work, a partial closure of the hospital’s Green Parking lot is in effect, with Emergency Department visitors directed to the Gold Deck.
Chris Munn, director of emergency services for Northside Hospital System, cited sustained population growth in the Sandy Springs area as a driver of the project’s scope and timing.
According to a release from Northside Hospital, the expanded facility will add 67,537 SF of new space across two floors, 18 treatment rooms, a new triage and entry zone, accommodations for two additional care teams, and a 54-space dedicated parking structure at the Atlanta campus.
