Baystate Health will open Baystate Mary Lane Convenient Care – Ware at 144 West Street in the former Smithland Pet and Garden Center. The site will feature four exam rooms, on-site imaging, and a laboratory. Walk-in and scheduled visits with evening and weekend hours are planned.
Baystate Health has identified a site in Ware for a new convenient care facility, with the location set at 144 West Street. Known as Baystate Mary Lane Convenient Care – Ware, the practice will occupy a building that previously housed the Smithland Pet and Garden Center, marking a conversion of former retail space to medical use. The property sits near public transportation routes and other local amenities.
Convenient care operations generally handle non-life-threatening conditions and combine elements of urgent care with pathways to longer-term primary care. Patients at the Ware location will be able to schedule appointments or arrive as walk-ins, and the facility plans to keep evening and weekend hours to widen availability beyond a standard daytime schedule.
Plans for the building call for four exam rooms, on-site imaging, and a laboratory. That lab will process orders for patients treated at the facility and also accept lab work referred by other community members. An opening is anticipated within nine to twelve months.
A possible second phase has also been outlined that would add primary care services and host a family medicine residency program, with a potential launch in 2028 or 2029. Such an expansion would depend on funding from the Rural Transformation Health Fund and would draw on a training model already operating at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. Baystate Health has indicated that a larger site would be sought to support that future growth.
According to a Baystate Health announcement, the organization has served Western Massachusetts for more than 140 years.
