The comprehensive facility, planned for the southwest corner of Hayden Road and Loop 101, has drawn resistance from aviation and public safety organizations citing operational conflicts and service adequacy concerns.
The Scottsdale Airport Advisory Commission voted 5-1 against the project last month, identifying proximity to airport runways as a critical safety issue. Commissioners raised concerns that emergency helicopter operations associated with the hospital could create dangerous flight path intersections with existing airport traffic patterns, potentially compromising aviation and public safety protocols.
Scottsdale Firefighters Association has maintained opposition to the development for two years, with leadership arguing the community’s healthcare infrastructure already meets current demand. Banner Health remains confident the project will receive necessary approvals despite organized resistance.
