UMass Memorial Health has moved one of its longest running primary care practices out of a hospital campus and into leased retail space along the Route 9 corridor. The practice previously operated as Benedict Family Medicine inside the Benedict Building at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University Campus on Lake Avenue North in Worcester. It now carries the name Family Medicine at White City Plaza and occupies Unit A2 at 50 Boston Turnpike Road in Shrewsbury, a storefront positioned between Shaw’s Supermarket and Petco in space that previously held a liquor store.
Clinical staffing carried over intact, so patients continue seeing the same physicians and support team. Added amenities at the community location include free surface parking and on-site laboratory blood draw services. UMass Memorial Health serves as the clinical partner of UMass Chan Medical School.
White City Shopping Center sits at Boston Turnpike and South Quinsigamond Avenue on a segment of Route 9 carrying roughly 55,000 vehicles per day. Inland Real Estate Income Trust owns the center, which is anchored by Shaw’s, totals about 179,691 SF, and counts Planet Fitness, Panera Bread, Petco and The Paper Store among its tenants. Inland purchased the property in 2015 for $96.75 million.
