Encompass Health Set To Break Ground On Post Falls Rehab Hospital This Fall

Encompass Health plans to build a 50-bed, 55,000 SF rehabilitation hospital in Post Falls, Idaho, with a 2028 opening. The facility will treat stroke, spinal cord and orthopedic patients, adding inpatient rehab capacity to fast-growing Kootenai County.

Encompass Health, an Alabama-based health care company, is planning to build a 50-bed rehabilitation hospital in Post Falls, Idaho, with an opening targeted for 2028. The facility will span 55,000 SF and serve patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, orthopedic conditions and other illnesses requiring intensive rehabilitative care.

Beyond 24-hour nursing coverage, the hospital will offer physical, occupational and speech therapy services. Planned amenities include private patient rooms, a large therapy gym, an in-house dialysis suite, a dining room, a pharmacy and an outdoor therapy courtyard.

Kootenai County ranks among the fastest-growing regions in Idaho and the nation, and Encompass Health West president Kim Steward said the area remains underserved for inpatient rehabilitation care, according to a company statement. Encompass Health operates more than 175 hospitals nationwide from its Alabama headquarters, though its presence in the Pacific Northwest remains limited to a single Boise facility. That 60-bed, 14,000 SF hospital opened in 2019.

Two competing rehabilitation facilities already operate in Post Falls, both owned by Ernest Health, a rival for-profit hospital chain with 35 facilities across 13 states. Rehabilitation Hospital of the Northwest runs a 30-bed operation, while North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital added a 17-bed rehabilitation unit in 2025. Providence St. Luke’s Medical Center in Spokane currently serves as the region’s largest rehabilitation center.

Encompass Health spokesperson Polly Manuel said the Post Falls site was chosen for its proximity to acute care providers and Interstate 90, the Spokesman-Review reported.

Construction is scheduled to begin this fall on a 7.88-acre lot located east of Highway 41 and north of Prairie Avenue at 8142 North Zorros Road. The site, part of the Jacklin Ranch commercial park, was purchased from Jacklin Northwest earlier this year.
